Cresset Community
Farm (CCF) is a biodynamic farm located beside the
Big Thompson River six miles east of Loveland, Colorado,
with a beautiful view of the Rock Mountains. The non-profit
Cresset Farm Development Initiative (CFDI) is the steward
of the land and sup- ports educational, cultural,
therapeutic, and social activities centered in farm life.
The farmers are Ursula and Lawrence Holmes.
Biodynamic farming is the oldest organic agricultural
movement in practice today. Cresset’s 120 acres consist of
dryland pasture, irrigated pastures, and vegetable gardens.
Cows and one horse graze the wild areas and the pasture.
When the animals are not grazing, they are fed hay and
bedded on straw. In return for their food and humane care,
the animals give milk, meat, eggs, and manure.
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a partnership
between a local farm and it’s members. The farm and farmers
provide local, healthy, farm-fresh food and farm
experiences. Members support the farm through their
commitment to buy a share of the harvest, thereby creating
a market for the farm’s produce. The larger community
benefits from the preservation of farmland that protects
the environment in a way that is economically sustainable.
A share is a portion of the weekly vegetable harvest.
One share of vegetables is intended to feed 2 adults. The
summer share begins in July and the winter share begins in
November. Each runs for eighteen weeks. Members near each
pickup location form their own driving co-op to pick up
their produce.
In addition to vegetables, freshly baked bread is offered
each week for an additional charge. There is also raw milk
available through a cow-share program. Periodically a cow
or steer is harvested and meat is available. A newsletter
is distributed to keep members informed of the farm’s
activities
We invite every member to visit the farm. To take
part in the farm’s activities during the season is one way
to connect and the help is very much appreciated. We
welcome individuals, families and groups. Please call for
an appointment. Members help harvest, plant, make fermented
vegetables and participate in other farm-related projects.
There is an activity appropriate for every ability and all
ages. Let’s share a meal and have fun.
Join the Cresset Community to help secure the farm for
future generations. Soil fertility comes from diversified
healthy farms and brings forth clean water, quality of life
and healthy people. This life equation is simple and true.
We are interested in your passions, in helping us create
Cresset Community Farm into a "soulscape".
This is an important part of the farm operation. By
committing to weekly work at the farm, you can earn your
share of the harvest. Barter work includes harvesting,
packaging and preserving vegetables; planting seeds;
weeding; helping with other farm chores; and related
activities. The farm is able to accommodate a variety of
schedules and abilities. Individuals, families, students
and retirees are welcome to apply. Please contact the farm
for a barter share application and to schedule an
interview.
